British Celebrities - A Few Of This Years Most Written About

By Mark Walters

Everyone loves to read about celebrities, and it seems like this year UK celebrities have been more talked about than ever. So, who are some of the most written about famous people in the UK this year? Well, one of them has got to be Cheryl Cole. She's one of the most recognizable celebrities around right now and the media seem to follow her wherever she goes. Lately, she has been caught up in the whole X Factor drama and that has certainly set tongues wagging and pens scribbling.

Kate and Pippa Middleton have also been prominently featured all over the media lately, although since she married Prince William (see below) on 29th April, we should probably refer to Kate as the Duchess of Cambridge, her official royal title. Both sisters are in the papers a lot but considering you might expect most of the attention to be on Kate, Pippa is also proving to be something of an allure to large sections of the press and has had lots of articles written about her.

As always, the world of sport can also be relied upon for some juicy gossip and, continuing a trend that has been going on for the past couple of years, Wayne Rooney has to make the list of the 'most written about people of 2011'. Most recently, he has been causing controversy over his decision to have a hair transplant because he was (reportedly) fed up with his football team mates teasing him about his hairline. Barely a day goes by without a report of his latest antics.

Another frequenter of the British media is Simon Cowell, sometimes called TV's Mr. Nasty. He has been in the news this year due to confusion over whether or not he'd be judging the UK X Factor and also the fact he got the aforementioned Cheryl Cole a role on the US version of the show only for her to be sacked not long after. This has led to quite a bit of controversy and has ensured that his long reign as a talked-about celebrity won't be ending any time soon.

The last entry on our list is Prince William, whose already-intense fame has reached new heights this year after he married Catherine (Kate) in front of millions of people. He's also an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot, a fact that has filled more than a few headlines and he also makes the papers for his work as a member of the royal family. As a prominent member of the royals and a future monarch, he seems set to be written about for a long time to come.
