High street fashion keeps it in the family

By Hannah Buckley

Celebrity clothing lines are nothing new, but famous family members pairing up is a relatively recent addition to the world of high-profile, high street fashion.

Actress and style icon Sienna Miller and her sister Savannah led the way in Britain with their fashion forward range Twenty8Twelve, back in 2006. The name which gets its name from Miller's date of birth, is a true reflection of the blonde bombshells stylish garb, but it is sister Savannah, a professional fashion designer who is the true brains behind their high-end high street fashion brawn.

Over in the States, the Material Girl high street fashion line - the creation of mother/daughter pairing of Madonna and Lourdes Ciccone - is now into its second successful season. Lourdes' design contribution includes putting a contemporary teen spin on mum's famously 'out there' fashion sense - and it must be working because the rocker-chic designs are flying off hangers and into homes.

Back in the UK, another family pairing of celebs are rock and roll survivor Pearl Lowe and 'it-girl' daughter Daisy. Lowe senior's vintage-inspired collection at Peacocks brings a genuine touch of class to high street fashion, whilst Lowe junior - voted one of Vogue's 'best dressed' thanks to mum's fabulous frocks - models the current range.

The spring/summer 2011 collection is Pearl's sixth successful team-up with Peacocks, and it's little wonder they're so popular when you consider that you can get hold of a designer dress for just 40. The range, which takes inspiration from Brigitte Bardot and the French Riviera, features elegant and timeless summer tea dresses.

This season sees the launch of Pearl's Classic collection, which is a celebration of her most successful high street fashion designs. Due to popular demand, and at the special request of her daughter Daisy who glided her way into Vogue's 'Best Dressed' list after wearing the dress last October, Pearl has re-created her monochrome bow design into a timeless LBD. Pearl will also be offering an updated colour option of last summer's sell out polka dot dress which was a favourite with celebrities including Holly Willoughby, Alexa Chung and Gizzi Erskine. I'm all about keeping it in the family - the high street fashion family that is - so if it's good enough for them, it's most certainly good enough for me.
