General Information On Hair Turbans

Much information can be obtained on hair turbans. Much of the information can pertain to the history, intended purposes, and variety of availability. One will find that different cultures may have their own set of restrictions or rules that pertain to this headdress as well as the variety of colors that one can choose from.

This particular headdress has been around since before the 14th century. It is unclear as to where it originate since most of the early information was not documented. It may seem more commonly found within middle eastern countries however there are many in Africa and Asia that also follow this custom. It is popular belief that the original design for the headdress was a small cap that was then wrapped with strips of fabric.

There are several variations that are available depending on the tribe or purpose in which one decides to wear it. Some are in a cone shape, others are simple, some where them to cover up hair and others yet still may wear them as a sign of religious faith. It is common for one to find that some may be adorned with different embellishments, depending on rank in a religious or military sect. Many are found to wear them at all times except when asleep as a way to completely cover ones hair.

Those in the different parts of Africa wear them as a symbol of which tribe they are part of. These will range in color and are commonly a simple piece of fabric that is entwined around the head. Other parts of Africa will wear them as a symbol of their dedication to the Christian Faith. The styles that are commonly found are simple with just a few strips of cloth however there are over sixty different versions that are available today.

There are some rules and restrictions that may need to be observed depending on the region that one is part of in the middle east. These could be that they have to be worn in public, have to be worn at all times, have to cover the ears, or that men can only wear them. This will vary depending on the region as well as the religion that is prominent in the area.

There are some regions that reserve them for special occasions such as weddings and religious occasions. These are also commonly used in place of a crown for those in command. It is thought that these observances were out of respect to religion as well as any customs that might be considered.

It is common for those within the middle east to wear shades of green as a symbol of paradise. However those who rank high within the religious community or those of devout faith may chose white or black. However it is not uncommon for those of military or other high authoritative positions to possibly have other colors. One will find that color choice is often associated with the religion of the area.

Much information is available on hair turbans as well as the many restrictions that can associate them with a particular religion or group. Each will offer a large amount of information on colors, ways to wrap, as well as the different groups that wear them. One does need to consider all of the information as some may reflect what rank one is in relation to the military or religion of the region.
