Los Angeles Condos, the Good and Bad

By Luis Pezzini

Residing in a condo in Los Angeles is much different than living in a home in this city. One important difference is the location of these two different types of homes. Another difference between the two is what type of lifestyle the residents have. Purchasing a condo in Los Angeles is a big investment and decision to make. Before making this type of purchase, consumers should review the benefits of being a condo owner in Los Angeles along with the disadvantages.

Two benefits that consumers will be able to enjoy by living in a condo in Los Angeles is the location and the security that goes along with it. Condos can be found in the urban areas of the city, but they can also be found in the heart of the city as well. No matter what neighborhood your home is in individuals want to feel safe and condos provide them with this feeling. This is especially important for people who live alone. A guard or having controlled access in order to enter your home, which is something that can often be found within condos is a big selling point.

Little to no maintenance, affordability, attractive amenities, and association membership are other positive aspects that come with living in a condo. Condos unlike homes do not have yards which significantly cut down on required maintenance such as mowing the lawn. The only thing that individuals living in a condo will have to worry about is their personal property such as their furniture and major appliances. When compared to other types of real estate the price of condos can be very reasonable. Individuals will realize just how reasonable they are when they look at all the additional amenities that come along with them. Residents will have access to things such as a club house to host parties in and outdoor living rooms to use privately or to entertain guest.

A bad aspect of living in a condo in Los Angeles is that residents will be subject to community living. Houses are positioned between 10 to 20 feet away from each other, which is not the case with condos. Condos are built together inside a single building, which is huge in size. House owners are the only ones responsible for making decisions regarding their homes, but decisions regarding the maintenance of the building housing all of the condos are a group effort in which all of the residents are involved. Also, considered by many to be a bad aspect of living in a condo is all the fees that have to be paid. Necessary building repairs and other similar items are covered by the fees that residents pay.

Following set rules are a big part of living in a condo in Los Angeles. Residents will not have free rain over what types of pets they want to own or what to decorate their patio with. The rules are not meant to be a headache for residents; they are only put into place to protect the interest of the building. The individuals who are responsible for setting these rules are the condominium association management team. The manager that is usually found on the property is following the wished of the Board of Directors found within the association.
