Moonlighting and Die Hard: Bruce Willis Movies

By Jeremiah D. Chappell

Although there is a lot of mixed reaction when it comes to the show "Moonlighting", great Bruce Willis movies are memorable and thoroughly enjoyable for most of us, not just the die hard movie fans.

For some people it would have taken a long time to actually decide to rent a Bruce Willis movie on DVD, for others they would have been at the front of the queue each time one was released. A lot of people have been known to become "hooked" once they watch their first Bruce Willis movies.

When I did see my first of the Bruce Willis movies, it was just after Die Hard had come out, but I didn't watch that one. I liked the sound of "Look who's talking" and so that was the first of the Bruce Willis movies that I saw. I am one of the people who thought "The Last Boyscout" and also "Hudson Hawk" were good movies, but I remember when I saw "Look who's talking" I was hooked.

Over the years there have been many good Bruce Willis films i.e. 'Pulp Fiction', 'Twelve Monkeys', 'The Fifth Element', 'The Sixth Sense', and 'Cop Out'; as well as many that haven't been all that good i.e. 'Last Man Standing', and 'Armageddon'; actually, there have been too many in both categories to list, but, there's still his crowning glory...

'Over The Hedge' is the pinnacle of a long career. Actually; no, that should have read 'Die Hard', and 'Over the Hedge' is a very close fifth, or sixth, depending on when 'Die Hard' five arrives, and whether it can keep the franchise ticking along. Interestingly enough, and I use the term 'interestingly' in the loosest sense of the meaning, 'Die Hard' was based on a sequel to the book 'The Detective', and in the 1968 version of that film the lead character, 'Joe Leland', was played by Frank Sinatra.

So far we have witnessed four movies in the Die Hard series, and as mentioned the fifth is scheduled for release sometime in the 2012/13 season. Of course this is yet to be confirmed, and knowing the movie makers, the date is likely to change. We just need to take a look at how they handled the latest Bond movie. So basically considering that after seeing Bruce Willis in Moonlighting, then the transition into action and other film genres, it is sometimes interesting to note how my mindset has adjusted since I have seen the Bruce Willis movies through this period.

Who knows, one day in the future, after finally watching a 'Die Hard' marathon, I might actually relent; I may give up the habit of a lifetime, and see if I can find an episode of 'Moonlighting' to watch; it can't really be all that bad, can it?
