Music Memorabilia - Scarce Music Memorabilia

By Mark Turgeon

A vinyl record signed by a famous rock star can be worth several thousands of dollars. If the rock star is dead, the signed vinyl record will increase in value. Collecting rare music memorabilia can be lucrative and fun. You can choose to put your music items on display in your house so that all visitors can look at your rare pieces.

If you happen to own a bar or a lounge, it would be ideal to show off your collectibles for your customers to see. Most of these customers are fans of these music legends and they would be intrigued by your items.

You may be wondering how you would go about acquiring rare music memorabilia. Most of these pieces are not for sale in retail stores. You may be able to find some rare pieces listed in the classified ads of magazines or newspapers.

Another source to find music memorabilia is at an estate sale. You would have to analyze the list of items that are being auctioned off at the sale before you decide to attend. Having knowledge of the items being auctioned off will help you determine their values.

Another source to find music memorabilia is in publications that feature collectibles. These publications can be authentic dealers or auction houses that feature rare memorabilia. Some of these auction houses have monthly auctions and new rare memorabilia is added for bidding each month.

If you are pursuing just rare pieces, then you should know exemplars of authentic signatures from the signer or bands. For decades tour posters have been used to promote concerts. Posters like and original Beatles concert poster is considered rare and if they are signed its beyond rare to own.

Before you buy any piece of rare music memorabilia, you need to know what condition it is in. You should study the acronyms that are used to indicate the condition of memorabilia. Some slight damage to any item can dramatically affect its value.

You should also ask the original owner of the collectible on how the item was displayed. Depending on how the collectible was cared for, will affect the way it ages over time. If the collectible was displayed in direct sunlight, then the item and signature will likely fade over time. Finding true authentic rare memorabilia is always a challenging run, especially when it is old and in mint condition.
