I don't have HBO, so I stream true blood from http://www.watchit-online.com and I am now a true blood JUNKIE! If you are interested in vampire stories, or if you are thinking of checking out this popular series, let me get you up to speed on what it's about. Even better, let me show you why you why it is SO GREAT, and how you can dive into the series without subscribing to a monthly bill just to see it.
The character Sookie Stackhouse (played byAnna Paquin) began the series as a slightly ditzy waitress annoyed with her ability to hear people's thoughts, but as the season progressed she evolved into a much more well-rounded person. With her firm resolution to treat vampires as equals, she brings trouble to her family, but she also becomes stronger, and more independent.
Set in a world where vampires are now known to be real, True Blood's creatures of the night survive on an artificial substance called Tru Blood. How society reacts and accepts these supposedly reformed bloodsuckers is a whole other story - and the basis of great television. Only a premium channel like HBO could really do justice to this story; a great vampire tale needs a lot of blood, sex, and cursing. So lets take the time to review Season 1 of Trueblood and please leave me comments of what you think.
Starting in the first episode, a murderer haunts the townsfolk in their daily lives, targeting women who've had encounters with vampire men. This puts Sookie in quite the predicament since she befriends her new sexy neighbor, vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer).
Sookie's brother, Jason, just happens to be the local pimp. Since he has been involved with all the slain women, he is now a prime suspect. Jason is innocent though. He doesn't plot anything beyond who's bed he will warm for the evening. His relationship with Sookie is just as warm. Their family bond stays strong, even when he fails to help her when she needs him the most.
Sookie insists on taking care of herself, but she has close friends who provide the support she needs, but won't admit she needs.
Her boss is Sam Merlotte, and he is deeply in love with her. Sadly, he has secrets of his own. Secrets that won't allow him to get close.
Her best friend, Tara, is especially fun as an outspoken, stubborn woman with her own secret troubles and deep infatuations.
Tara's cousin Lafayette is a favorite of the show. Flamboyent, tough and sensitive all at the same time, Lafayette is also a coworker and friend of Sookie. One of the best parts of meeting this character is when we learn of his "entrepreneurial endeavors"... Lafayette sells anything you need, especially sex and drugs.
Perhaps the funnest part of the true blood world is that of the vampires personal lives. They try to keep themselves separate from humans while fitting in with human society at the same time. They are predators at heart, but they have lost the hunt. Even worse, they are now vulnerable to attacks by the prey they once hunted. They also have their own societal rules, laws and consequences separate from the human world.
True Blood is a love-it-or-hate-it type show but has gained a huge fan base. The series can be a bit ridiculous at times, but it has a lot of action and a level of pure fun that can't be matched by many current shows. Go to watch-itonline.com to find out how you can watch it online without spending money on a subscription.
