CBS Films released a Jason Statham branded, action movie titled "The Mechanic" into theaters. I just watched it,and it was pretty good. It moved at a pretty fast pace as all Statham movies usually do,and showed a lot of good killing action, and more. It stars: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland, and Christa Campbell.
The movie revolved around Arthur Bishop . Arthur is a mechanic, which is a highly trained assassin. He gets paid to assassinate people who are shady,or that have been involved in some illegal business practices. Before he does the job, he's given photos and records of the people he's hired to murder. He kills them in unique ways, ways that can't be tracked back to him.
Everything seems to be going fine for him in his chosen career as he's labeled one of the best in his business. Unfortunately, things take a sharp turn when his mentor and friend Harry McKenna (Sutherland) shows up on the hit list to be murdered. Arthur asks for a meeting with the boss to get more details, and is told if he doesn't kill Harry, someone else will because he has supposedly been tipping people off about their assassination jobs.
Arthur completes the job of killing Harry. Then Harry's son Steve McKenna (Foster) shows up,and eventually asks Arthur to teach him everything he knows about being a mechanic killer. He does teach him,and they eventually do a couple of jobs together, but the best job is yet to come.
Arthur eventually finds out that the killing job he did on Harry was part of a conspiracy by his boss. From that point, Arthur has revenge on his mind, and Steve comes along for the ride to get vengeance for Harry's death. I won't give the whole ending away, but lets just say that Steve ends up finding out that Arthur was the one who actually killed his father.
This fact causes a big twist to occur towards the end, which involves lots of guns being fired, wild car chases that cause tons of damage, and huge explosions. Also, you should like the ending scene because Arthur pulls off a pretty clever stunt. For a film that's filled with such ugly violence,it's plays out quite beautifully.
In my opinion, Jason Statham did a really good job as usual by playing the cool, calm, and collective action guy who can really kick butt. The movie never had a dull moment. They kept it moving at pretty good pace. I gave it an A grade.
