How To Deal With A Broken TV At Christmas Time

By Sean D. Stephen

It is an irritable experience, if the TV breaks down at festival times like Christmas and you will have to miss viewing on all the good programs. The problem can be tackled in a number of ways; some of them are given below:

1. In case, you are capable of using the operating manual and the type of problem is simple like tuning, you can save on repair charges. Provided, of course, that you have not or misplaced the manual.

2. The visit of a TV technician, even for an assessment of what is wrong with the TV is a costly affair. If the cost of repairs is added, you may start thinking of other viable and less expensive propositions.

3. As a stop gap arrangement, your old set, if it is still with you, may be taken out or the one in your bedroom brought out for general watching.

4. You are lucky, if the repair has become necessary during the warrant period as the retailer will have to attend to it free of cost.

5. If the set you have is on rent, the repairs will be done free as per the contract covering manufacturing defects and breakdown. That saves you good money, being spent on getting it repaired.

6. Aged TV sets, are not worth repairing, spending your money on it. You may replace it with the latest brand/ model in the market. The best time for purchasing that is January.

7. In case, you are keen saving on repairs in future, a good option is to go for rentals. The best available TV will be yours for viewing, something you can never think of, as it may be beyond your purchasing power. It is a worthwhile consideration.

8. If you decide on the rental option, look for it immediately, in time for X-mas.
