'The Last Exorcism' Movie Review

By Ryan Smith

Lionsgate Movies delivered their horror, thriller film called "The Last Exorcism" into theaters last year. I recently checked it out,and I thought it was remarkable. The professional movie critics were a bit mixed on this one,but I thought it was pretty good. It featured numerous unusual, suspenseful, creepy scenes that left me on the edge of my seat. It stars: Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell,Louis Herthum, and Tony Bentley.

The flick centered around a man named Cotton Marcus who is a supposed Reverend that executes bogus exorcisms for payment. On his last trip,he makes a decision to record his full experience, and reveal what he actually does to fool these people. However, this new experience is an experience he'll always remember. He shows up at the Louis Sweetzer farm. The town is filled with individuals who believe in crazy demon stories as they reveal in a recording session.

Louis Sweetzer is hooked on the idea that his daughter Nell is possessed by a demon because she demonstrates crazy behavior, and then doesn't remember it after it's over. Cotton eventually uses some tricks to make it really look like she's really possessed and carries out a fake exorcism to make things seem ok.

Next, they depart town, thinking everything is ok as it was just another routine, faux exorcism. However, when Nell appears in their hotel room, located five hours away from the Sweetzer Farm, all hell breaks loose ,and concludes with a surprise twist finale.

The film featured weird scenes, that included Nell chopping up a cat,Nell crawling and walking in the pitch dark,Nell going mad and breaking her fingers, and a real crazy scene where a baby is taken out of Nell and cast into a massive ball of fire. It was really crazy. I think the movie was very interesting. It had me on the edge of my seat with all the suspense scenes because they were in the dark a great deal.

It delivered a nice little build up at the outset before all the creepy stuff started happening, which gave it a real marvelous surprising effect when the girl went crazy. It was definitely an outstanding thriller flick. I gave it an A rating.
