General Information On The Arab Turban

An Arab turban is the most common accessory worn by many people in most countries in the Middle East. It has been in use for a very long time. It is not a regular piece of cloth worn on the head but rather has symbolic representations of the religious, traditions, beliefs, personality and tribal affiliations of a particular individual. The stereotypes and misconceptions associated with this attire do not hinder individuals who want to preserve their culture from wearing them.

According to the Arabic tradition, this it showed self-respect and royalty. This accessory is available in a variety of colors. The commonly used colors are black, green, navy blue and white. The fabrics used are fine cotton, silk and synthetics which define the cost of the item. They are nice and fashionable and always look splendid.

They are generally long pieces of fabrics whose length range from five to nine meters. They may either be wrapped or not to meet the needs of the various users. Some of them may be scarves tied on the head. Many people are unable to wear them properly either due to lack of the skills to tie them or inability to the appropriate size needed. Tight turbans usually result in headaches.

Religion is also represented by these turbans. The Muslims use this attire as a form of identity and are therefore able to distinguish Muslims from non-Muslims. In accordance to the Islamic religion, they represent a number of desirable values such as piety, manhood and dignity of the wearer. Today, many people wear them for several other reasons since they are quite fashionable.

This attire is regarded as the most significant modest clothing in Islamic countries. The colored ones are very attractive and usually indicate the rank held by the wearer in the society. Those worn when attending colorful events such as parties and weddings are embellished with a variety of jewelry. Mourning seasons require plain turbans with muted colors. Different styles are used for different situations.

The Arab turban is available in two main kinds. These are commonly known as amah and keffiyeh. These two have various differences but generally play the same role. The keffiyeh is sometimes not classified as a turban. It is a special cloth draped around the head to provide relief from the scorching sun. They are tied in different ways and are made using different fabrics.

The turbans serve different purposes and represent unique things depending on the location of the wearer. They are used as a basis for recognizing individuals from the same community. This facilitates the strengthening of social ties between these individuals. Many Muslims wear them when attending prayers. Islamic religious leaders and scholars wear white ones for easy identification.

The Arab turban has very many uses in the region where they are found. The Middle East is generally a desert region and experiences high temperatures due to the scorching sun. It is used to prevent the sun from burning the head. Other people use it to fetch water and to filter water to remove any particles present in it. In dusty regions it offers protection the discomfort caused by dust particles.
