Simplifying The Process Of Tying An Urban Turban

By Claudine MacDonald

Clothing is among the basic human needs that have to be satisfied by any means necessary. However, the garments that people wear are influenced by various factors. The society has expectations that individuals are expected to meet with the way they dress. Traditionally, religion governed the norms and practices of various societies around the world. Some of these religions such as Hindu and Islam required individuals to wear headdresses on various occasions. This is where the urban turban originated from. It has become a trend in modern fashion being taken up by many people worldwide.

These items of clothing are just plain sheets of cloth that are folded systematically into the designs that people wear. As expected, you have a wide variety of designs that you could use to fold the material on the head. These enhance uniqueness, which is an important aspect of any trend in the fashion industry.

Various materials could be used in manufacture of the cloth. The most common include natural fibers such as cotton an synthetic ones like nylon. To begin wrapping, take the long cloth and put it on top of your head. About 8 inches should be left hanging around the neck. The rest of the material should be in your hand in front of your face.

Using your free hand, secure cloth on your head and then with the other hand, pull back the other edge such that it covers the rest of the head surface. You should not tighten the cloth too much since it may become uncomfortable to wear.

It is now time for the second wrap-around. It should cover the circumference of the head but have a tilt to the right. This looks like the traditional appearance of the turban when it was worn for religious purposes. It goes without saying that this process needs to be done before a mirror so that the wearer is able to monitor the appearance and change it when needed. The third wrap should tilt the garment slightly to the back of the head. Each one goes on top of the last for a complete appearance. At the end, not more than 24 inches should remain unused.

One thing you should always keep in mind when folding the cloth is that the final two feet should be in horizontal orientation. This orientation is what gives the cloth its characteristic looks. The final fringes of the cloth should not be left hanging as this would be untidy. They should be pushed under one of the wraps to complete the look. However, they should be pushed under one of the lower wraps for neatness.

The garment can also be tilted in any appropriate direction to enhance its appearance. These tilts are responsible for creating variations in the products that people wear. The traditional look however is the main objective for most people.

It is possible for one to be unable to tie the urban turban appropriately especially when doing it for the first time. In such cases, he/she has to seek the assistance of friends and family to complete the job. However, the helper has to be experienced in doing these wraps.
