The commoners however, use the usual design, which has the same tying style as the one used by Sikh people.

The word turban is believed to have originated from Iranian origin. The Iranian leaders usually wear either black or white colored turbans, which are similar to those worn by Muslim elders. The people who wear them are considered wise. The forehead is carefully left uncovered during tying.

Afghan men wear a very long headband and the variety is mostly visible among afghan. Since it may be really long there is no proper way but to wrap it around the head and a part of it is left hanging around one shoulder. This type of headband is common among the Taliban.
