Movie buffs ahoy! Karan Johar gives us a blast from the past with the upcoming 'Student of the Year'

By Rohini Nadia

The best of us remember our youth days the most, and when a film portraying just that shows up, the box-office is bound to have a hay-day, with grown-ups looking for a way to reminisce the best days of their lives, and teenagers looking for a peak at what Karan Johar thinks is just how our younger days should be!

Siddharth Malhotra plays the role of Abhimanyu Singh a.k.a Abhi who hails from a middle-class family and yearns for success. Varun Dhawan is Rohan Nanda aka RO, the son of filthy rich businessman who shares a soured relationship with his dad ergo leading to his quest for bagging approval and proving himself. Alia Bhatt is Shanaya Singhania , the most admired girl on the campus and the fascination of the three to win the much re-claimed trophy of "the student of the year", their source of materializing their respective dreams. To add on to the cast list, there is another new face to be spotted in the movie, the son of Boman Irani, Kayoze, whose role in the movie still remains suspense.

Complete with all you'd expect from a teenage-years-related movie, including a dream-like full-fledged institution, a lot unlike the ones the most of us were subjected to in our schooling years, with an auditorium, a gym and the like, all of which act as a spectacular backdrop for this upcoming Sidharth Malhotra-starrer, this one's also Karan Johar's first directorial gig without the King of Bollywood himself, Shah Rukh Khan. And that's not where it stops. Besides being an aesthetically-pleasing piece of eye-candy, the upcoming 'Student of the Year' also packs all the dance-and-song that make a Bollywood flick what it is. As mentioned before, the movie will be Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan's first big screen appearance and is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Packing a peppy soundtrack with music-director duo Vishal-Shekhar calling the shots, the film includes a fantastic soundtrack with the likes of Vishal Dadlani himself, Shefali Alvares, Shreya Ghosal and Udit Narayan lending their voices. Including just about everything you'd keep your ears open for in the soundtrack of a movie as such, the movie album boasts seven tracks in all, ranging from a perfectly youthful number (Ratta maar) to a classically-inclined song called Radha. To top it off, Vishal-Shekhar had the late Pakistani singer Nazia Hassan's voice overlaid with the film's party track titled Disco deewane.

Student Of The Year is slated to release on 19th October, 2012, with the complete package of Karan Johar, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, awesome music, beautiful locations and great fashion. Everything about this movie will make students everywhere want to live like students of St. Teresa and others to relive a student's life.
