Individual Silk Hand Painted Scarves

Scarves are a very versatile fashion item. Today being used as head wraps, belts in the traditional form around the neck, ties and even hair ties. Being hand painted scarves make them a even more unique and original accessory to suit each individual.

The best medium for painting on is 100 percent pure white silk. This allows paints to be absorb to there maximum giving more vivid colour. Specialized paints are used and are available in a wide range of colour allowing freedom in designs.

When painting on silk you need to make sure you have a frame to keep the silk as tight as a drum for the best results. A embroidery frame can be used if unable to get a silk frame. You will also need an artist paint brush for painting, a paint dish so you can mix colours, paints and resist outline paste for drawing on your design and to stop colours blending together. There are other items that can be used to create special effects.

There are different techniques such as adding salt to wet paint and allowing it to dry to create a mottled effect. Using extra water on the paints to create lighter areas and spots, or even thickening the paint with wall paper paste so it can be use for stamping and prevent bleeding.

Whichever effect and styles are used, hand painted scarves make a wonderful gift or item to have. Be it favourite colours used to create a marbled effect. Of your favourite animal delicately painted, there will be no other design like it as not two painting will be the same.

Since ancient times scarves have been used. First as a status symbol, to practical use for protection of workers. Today they are fashion item which every one can afford, but having a unique painting on them to suit individual just makes them that little bit more special.
