This lesson will go through the steps to making crystal and pearl jewelry. It is easy to make this simple pair of drop earrings.
For materials you will need two small open jump rings, four small crystal beads, two medium pearl beads, two head pins, two ear hooks, a pair of wire cutters, and a pair of needle nosed pliers. These materials can be found at your local craft store or you can recycle some old pieces you already have but no longer wear.
Place a crystal, a bead, and then another crystal on each of the head pins. You now have the base for the earrings.
You'll need to cut the head pin about half an inch from the last bead. You should wear glasses when using wire cutters to protect your eyes. I usually cup my hand around the cutters to prevent the cut piece from flying away.
You now want to make a loop at the end of the wire. To do so, bend the wire slightly right next to the last bead using the needle nosed pliers. To finish the loop grab the end of the wire with the pliers and twist to form a loop. It is okay if the loop is not perfect, no one will notice, and you will get better with practice.
Attach the head pin to the ear hooks with the jump ring. You can open the jump ring using two sets of pliers or with just one set and your fingers. Use the pliers to grasp one side of the opening and grab the other side with your fingers and twist slightly. The ring can be closed in the same way. Pinching it slightly to make sure it is closed will ensure that the hook or the pin does not slip off.
Congratulations you just made your own set of earrings. With little effort or expense, and different kinds of beads you can easily have a different pair for any occasion.
