Hip Hop Artist - Find Out How To Choreograph Hip Hop

By Farah Fan

Seeing your fave hip hop artist perform is actually amazing. The dancers as well as your hip hop artist make the dance routine appear easy and simple. Dance is really a wonderful art form to see and although it is the dancers who bring the art to life, there's a master artist behind who make the steps. Choreography is the art of managing dance performances. It is also used to arrange ice skating, cheerleading, synchronized swimming, and also a number of other performance arts. Someone who makes up dance steps and routines is called choreographer; usually, a choreographer works as a performer.

Choreographing a hip hop routine could be exciting and invigorating. Hip hop is a well-known music form with a long tradition in dance and high energy performance. The particular hip hop style can be funky and sexy and choreographing a routine can be a test on the creative juices.

You cannot choreograph a hip hop dance if you cannot move it yourself. If you need progress, attend a few classes to perfect your moves. Once you've completed your classes and feel certain, you can begin to choreograph. Listen to the hip hop music a couple of times. Develop a story of some sort or an emotional range in which things change through the entire song. If you're not inspired, watch the music video of the song. You will need a wide range of moves for a complete routine. Learn the song. Listen to it over and over and grrove to it. Get to know the rhythms, rhymes as well as beats. Start brainstorming on dance moves, it would be best to have a wide range of dance steps just in case some does not work out. Here are a few examples of hip hop dance moves: dropping down low, popping and locking, and breaking. When you have your set of steps you can start by playing the song in a studio room and start dancing. Ask a buddy to shoot your dance steps so it will give you an idea if your moves works with the song. Have mirrors set up at various angles so that you can see how the moves look like from various angles. Once you are happy with a step, write it down.

Include stylistic details to your moves. Arm and leg movements, which are often very arbitrary in hip hop dance, must be choreographed for the changes in the song. In addition, add group based details when the routine is for multiple individuals. Set up a structure for the group. A general good idea is to put the more talented dancers in the front.

Your choreograph steps are nearly as good as a famous hip hop artist. Next step would be to alternate your dances by sex for instance male and female. Have the female dance in sync while the guys dance another part in sync. Then mix it up. The options are endless, but you will need to settle on a plan. Be sure all things are cohesive. There should be no dead time in between complicated steps. There shouldn't be any wasted movement or difficulty being in the right spot at the best time.
