The Victoria Cut Diamond Comes Alive

By Gale Dickson

The modern trend of gem stone design is to create highly intricate designs. The Victoria cut diamond, a design owned by ABA Diamonds, continues this approach. The new cut was designed by company owner Ari Abaev. He debuted the new diamond design in 2002 at a trade show in Las Vegas.

Abaev was working on a stone with an emerald cut design that had a particularly brilliant shine to it. He explored the stone to identify the factors that resulted in such great brilliance and then used what he saw to create this new design.

This new design has 73 distinct cuts, making it an incredibly intricate design. All these cuts leave many small surfaces on the face of the diamond. The combination of all these surfaces creates a constant state of reflections bouncing off each other. It is these reflections that results in the extreme brilliance of the cut.

With its new, radiant cut, ABA Diamonds patented the design throughout the world. With a design patent, ABA Diamonds has the legal power to prevent other jewelers and designers from copying the cut. So any jewelry store that wishes to sell a Victoria cut stone must purchase them from ABA Diamonds, which keeps the company squarely in the revenue stream wherever such stones are sold.

Because the company wants to keep exclusive control over the flow of these diamonds, it also wants to ensure the authenticity of each one. This is achieved by inscribing every stone with a serial number or the name of the store where it was sold. Some of these gems will have both. Each Victorian cut stone is also certified by three different gemological institutes covering Europe, the United States, and the world.

While ABA Diamonds does maintain strict control over the distribution of each Victoria cut diamond, it still wants the real ones to get out to consumers. So the company sells diamonds with this cut to both mid range and high end stores. Read more about: Victoria Cut Diamond
