The Beauty Of Hand Dyed Silk Scarves

Throughout the ages, women from all around the world have always adorned themselves with scarves. Various cultures have created amazing designs on these wonderful pieces. Beautifully designed scarves are often handed down from mother to daughter. These hand dyed silk scarves in some cases considered heirloom treasures.

These items automatically add sophistication and style to any garment. They can bring femininity and softness, or polish to any attire. Women today still love these beautifully handmade pieces.

This is an ancient process, and it has come down today. There are modern techniques. However, the old ones are still being used. Resist, Batik, and Shibori are part of the oldest techniques.

There are various fabrics that would be suitable for the dyeing process, but silk is the one fiber that is used most often. This material holds the dye very well, and the colors are vibrant and beautiful.

One of the most ancient techniques is called Shibori. This technique involves manipulating fabric by folding and sewing in such a way that creates intricate patterns. Then the fabric is dipped into the dye and allowed to dry. Another form of dyeing take wax and applies it to fabric in prepared designs. The fabric is placed into the dye and once it is dry the wax is removed and the pattern is revealed.

Finally, we come to an application that uses resist to drawn designs and patterns on the fabric. Very detailed drawings are put onto the silk, and the sections are hand painted on. When it is dry, the whole piece is washed and the areas that had the resist applied are removed.

These some of the ways hand dye silk scarves are made. There are others processes and the ways of using these techniques are endless continuous.
