Many Different Fashion Turban Choices

By Cathy Mercer

Humans have always found many different reasons to sport various styles of head coverings. Some of those are cultural, some religious and other might have been status relation, traditional practices, practical purposes or simply because they like the design. In recent times, women are finding that the various fashion turban choices available are not only functional, but also attractive.

Most women choose their head covering to either serve a specific purpose or to accentuate a particular outfit. Since they can be made from a wide variety of fabrics and in many different designs, turbans are often a top choice. A big part of their appeal lies in their flexibility in look and practicality.

Scarves can be used in a number of ways to form a very fashionable wrapped head covering. To get started, one will need a large scarf that is either squared, rectangular or triangular. Lightweight fabrics that are soft to the touch such as silk, cotton, nylon and linen are generally the most comfortable and are quite easy to handle.

Each design requires a process of ordered folds, tucks, twists and knots to make any of the hundreds of stylish wraps. The bandanna form is the simplest turban to do because it is just a matter of beginning with a triangular scarf, centering the folded edge on the forehead with the open end over the top. The extended points get twisted and then knotted behind the neck, tucking in the loose flap.

Folding the scarf in a rectangle format until it is about three inches wide along the entire length gives a few more choices in how it can be worn. With a few wraps, twists and stretches, it can be made into a more fashion forward version of the traditional style. Winding in one direction then reversing to tie in a knot forms a unique looking headband.

All the various twists, folds, wraps and knots are not something everyone wishes, or is able, to do on their own. Those folks need not worry because designers have found a way to create hats that look as though someone has spent quite a bit of time elaborately folding. The caps are generally a little stretchable and can easily be fitted over anyone's head in a form fitting way.

Caps of this type are available in numerous designs meant to fit the desires of practically all who seek them. They can so closely mimic the intricately wrapped scarves that even the most particular fashionista is sure to find one to suit her picky tastes. The biggest difference is the convenience of being permanently stitched in place and able to be stretched onto the head.

Regardless of whether one prefers to do the wrapping themselves or to purchase a designer made cap, there are many fashion turban options to consider. Finding a fabric and pattern that suits one's personal preference is a good place to begin when deciding what style to wear. The headdresses may be further personalized through the addition of embellishments like rosettes, bows, jewels and ribbons.
