What Angelina Jolie Done In Libya

By Brigid Cinnamin

Angelina Jolie has been found yet again doing all she can to help those in need. She was photographed on Tuesday, October 11th meeting patients in a local hospital in Tripoli.

She is in the country on a two-day trip to fulfil her role as a United Nations goodwill ambassador. She is there to see how aid is being delivered to the Libyan citizens and any development since the removal of Muammar Gaddafi. Jolie is also said to be assisting agencies bringing aid to Libyans in the area.

She commented on the country's needs and the challenges that the people of Libya will face in the near future. She explained that she would be meeting with officials from all sides and listening to what the local Libyans, in the street, have to say about the situation.

Previously she visited Libyan refugees in Malta and on the Italian island of Lampedusa, in June. And then in April she went to Tunisia to draw attention to the 440,000 people who have fled Libya into surrounding countries. More than fifty percent of these have relocated in Tunisia, most of them migrants. After spending some time at the Ras Adjir border she visited the Choucha transit camp. Over 7,000 people live here, after fleeing from the chaos in Libya and having nowhere else to go.

Jolie mentioned the variety of nationalities living at the camp and its well organised set up, despite the problems that can derive from having so many cultural backgrounds concentrated in one place.

More and more migrant workers are returning home daily and the count is up to 70.000 workers who have already done so thanks to the humanitarian airlifts, which have been organised by the International Organisation for Migration and the UNHCR.

The Goodwill Ambassador spoke to a number of people, reassuring them and offering advice and comfort.
