Eye Candy Specials

By Marianne Holver

Beautiful girls all over the world yet here in America we obsess over every detail or "flaw" as some would say, and with these "flaws" American women and some men resort to cosmetic surgery. Can eye candy really be all that bad for you?

Eye candy- meaning the perfect body can be very damaging to person self-esteem if that is all the person reflects on and constantly compares one's self to another. Let back up though and define for you what some call eye candy.

Next I would like to talk about how many people are impacted by cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery impacts every age, adults, teens, and even kids. Some people are impacted for medical reasons but others are impacted for just personal reasons. The amount of people who are affected by cosmetic surgery actually depends on the type of surgery that you are looking into. Like for example the number for breast augmentation in 2008 was 355,671, in liposuction 341,144, in botox the number was 2,464,123.

Sexy is all the rage but have we ever stopped to think what this pushed image is doing to our society? Well according to The American Society of Cosmetic Surgeons, younger and younger people are coming in for cosmetic surgery to try to fit in with their peers, in fact according to ACS, over 33,000 people eighteen years of age and younger have had some form of cosmetic surgery.

Growing up in certain environments, do different things to different people, some are influenced to get cosmetic surgery, to try and fit in, while others are influenced to wear basketball uniform or, sport shirt/shorts and play sports all day. Cosmetic surgery can influence anyone or can be a group or a certain individuals it really just depends on who you are. One big thing that influences people to get cosmetic surgery is if one of their peers gets cosmetic surgery, like when a celebrity that you really like gets cosmetic surgery doesn't it just make you want to get cosmetic surgery too? The influences that we see for cosmetic surgery are; beauty, romance, fashion, fitness, and celebrities.

The influences that we see for cosmetic surgery through beauty, romance, fashion, fitness, and celebrities will never back down, in fact porn is only a growing market, but it that what you really want people to focus on when they look at you- your body alone? If they really love and care about you they will love you- all of you, with any and all imperfections. Save your time, save your money, go and enjoy life, don't get caught up in the media trap of perfection because there is really no such thing.
