Growing old gracefully may sound fine, until a woman actually experiences her first gray hairs. This is typically a defining moment when many women make the decision about weather or not they will be coloring gray hair or not. If they are over fifty many women may opt for a natural look that is easy to take care of, but for those who start graying as early as their twenties color is really a necessity.

Most cases of premature graying are due to hereditary factors. If a parent, especially the mother, experienced early graying then it is quite likely that the children will too. This can be quite a disturbing thought, but women should stay calm and head over to their local salon to get advice from an experienced stylist.

A color treatment takes about an hour to complete. The mixture is applied to the roots first as these are the most resistant part of the hair. Often the ends only need a few minuets of treatment so that they do not become too dark. It can take a while to find a hairdresser who really makes the client feel totally comfortable. Getting that perfect match of personalities can be tricky but once they find that perfect hairdresser most people keep coming back for years.

There is a great selection of home color kits which each have something great to offer. Many come with a special conditioner that should be used directly after the color. More and more kits today have a very natural approach. They rely primarily on eco friendly ingredients such as plant based dyes and non chemical colors.

Those with really resistant grays may want to consider home color kits. These are readily available at all grocery stores, big home discount chains and many other locations. Most are priced under ten dollars and when sale time comes around the can be as little as five or six dollars per box. This is definitely the time to stock up and have plenty of kits for the next few months.

Sometimes people like to try a few different colors before deciding which one they like the best. It is important to understand that certain shade come out much darker than expected. Most people only want to go a shade or two darker or lighter and need to be careful.

If the gray hairs are very prominent it may be necessary to color as often as every three weeks. This will help to prevent the roots from becoming too obvious and keep the look consistent. It only takes about an hours from start to finish and the results are wonderful.
