Taking A Look At Belly Dancing Clothing

By Amelia Peck

Belly dance is a type of Arabic dance that is very popular not only in the Middle East but all around the world. Every single part of the body takes part in this type of dance, and especially the hips play a key role in the movement that is created. Belly dancing clothing as well as accessories used by the dancers are distinctive and add theatricality to the motion.

The clothes worn will always depend on the form of the dance and the dancer's style and specific movements. The form depends on the specific region that it came out of originally. Recently, the different forms of dance have become more modern, resulting in increasingly contemporary clothes. Regardless, the classic eastern look remains the same.

This type of dance is generally performed by women. Although its origins are mainly found in male forms of dancing, still this movement is highly feminine. The costumes are also always designed with women in mind.

The bedlah costume was inspired by Salome and is considered typical apparel for this type of dance. It consists of a fitted bra with beads or coins hanging from it and a pair of harem style loose trousers. The belt is also fitted and tends to hug the hips, rather than adjust around the waist. Beads or coins are most often seen hanging from the belt as well.

It is also possible to swap the baggy trousers with a sinuous skirt, decorated almost the same. It tends to include some layers of chiffon which increases the effect of the bodily movements. There will also be a belt which is usually a thin fabric of some sort.

This specifically fitted belly dancing clothing is usually quite revealing but also loose and sinuous, increasing the overall movement. There are always a wide range of stores where these clothes and accessories can be found. You will find a variety of amazing colors which add to the effect of the dance.
