Denim is rather easy to design and make customizations to. Creating a customized look is limited only by the imagination. Examples might be applying studs, cutting, fading, distressing and bleaching since it is such a durable fabric options are countless.

Fading, has been around for some time and gives a stone-washed effect. This is a way to make new jeans look older and worn without actually being so. This can be obtained by first washing them to help remove the starch from the material, then mixing about a quart of bleach to a full washing machine and letting them soak for up to 30 minutes.

By distressing the fabric it will have an aged appearance making a new pair look old and comfortable. Ways to do this are just using a few simple items available like a piece of sandpaper, fingernail file, razor blade and things like those. Rubbing them across the material makes a worn spot, but be careful not to create a hole unless that is the desired effect.

Distressing the material is achieved by using such items as a fingernail file, knife or even a razor blade. This will give the look of age and is typically done in a creased area. Using these same types of things to fray the material is usually done at the waistband, pockets, hem, or seams to make them look aged and well worn.

Whatever method is used creativity and a sense of what the desired end result wanted is all up to the creator. Jeans can be decorated, faded, cut, and streaked to make them unique from any other pair. Making a pair of custom blue jeans is popular and an authentic way of showing ones individuality.
