deVere charity runners in plea for cash
deVere Group Chairman Nigel Green is appealing for sponsors to promise cash to charities to support his firm's team running in the 2011 Land Rover Malta Half Marathon.
Green and the team of long distance runners from deVere Group are in training to compete with around 2,000 other competitors in the gruelling 13 mile race across the Mediterranean island.
They are raising money for 3 charities:
Combat Stress - A group helping ex-servicemen recover from mental Problems like post traumatic stress disorder, foreboding and depression.
Founded in 1919 for First World War veterans, the charity works with around 4,300 previous soldiers and their families.
Guilain-Barre Syndrome Support Group - Aids sufferers and families while raising money for research. Guilain-Barre Syndrome is a distressing acute nervous illness that can end up in paralysis.
Evoke - A Maltese charity helping kids and grown-ups suffering from learning disabilities.
"We're excited about taking part and are putting every effort in to this race to raise as much money as we will for these three meriting causes," related Green. "deVere has an entire team running in the event, so I'm sure it is going to be a tough but fun day."
The team is searching for worldwide sponsorship for their run, which starts in the old Maltese town of Mdina and twists and turns across the island to end in the ancient port of Silema.
The Maltese Half Marathon was first run in 1987 and is a once a year event captivating runners from every part of the world.
