Wicked tickets have been selling in high numbers ever since the show began. It is the kind of musical that would be great to bring the whole family to, since everyone would be likely to enjoy it. Wicked the musical has won a Tony Award which further proves the show's value to the audience.
Wicked is actually based on a novel that was written by an author named Gregory Maguire. The novel is called "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". The novel has been a best-seller, and was loosely based on the classic by L. Frank Baum called "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz."
There are two witches in this story. The one who ends up becoming the wicked witch is named Elphaba. Glinda is the witch that is supposed to be the good one. The two witches have personalities that don't mix well, and they tend to bounce off one another. Still, they somehow end up becoming friends. Of course they go through various issues and drama along the way though. The biggest drama is perhaps that they like the same guy.
The story is set before Dorothy even arrives in Oz, but there are references to the movie in the musical. Plus, you may find that after seeing the musical you will walk away with a different view and opinion of the wicked witch of the west.
Other than the witches, the main characters are the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Madame Morrible, Fiyero, Nessarose, Boq and Doctor Dillamond. Everyone in the musical has a singing voice that stands out, and this adds to the entertainment value of the whole thing. Some of the favorite songs from the musical are "Dear Old Shiz", "For Good", "As Long as You're Mine" and "No One Mourns the Wicked".
