'Hereafter' Flick Featured Psychic Readings With Matt Damon

By Ryan Smith

Warner Bros recently released their new supernatural/drama,Matt Damon, branded film titled "Hereafter" into theaters a while back. I finally checked it out,and I thought it was ok for what it was. It featured a lot of emotions, drama, and a pretty good story. The film stars: Matt Damon, Cecile de France, Frankie McLaren, George McLaren, Jay Mohr, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

"Hereafter" centered around character George Lonegan (Damon) who is a retired psychic that used to have a website and thriving psychic business. However,he decided to give it up because he felt that his psychic gifts were a curse, and kept him from having a normal life.

Now, he works in a factory and seems pretty happy with it. Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, a young boy named Marcus loses his twin brother in a tragic car accident. A French reporter experiences death for a few minutes after almost drowning in a huge tsunami.

George also scares off a possible future girlfriend prospect named Melanie (Bryce Dallas Howard) with his psychic abilities after she begs him to do a read for her. Eventually, situations fall into place, which cause George to meet the French reporter lady at a book signing and the little boy Marcus who looks for him so he can speak with his dead brother again.

Hereafter delivered some pretty intense, emotional moments, especially with little Marcus. It concluded with a great, feel good, ending for George. I thought the film was pretty good. I'm more of an action movie watcher. However, I liked the supernatural effects in this film, along with the intense dramatic scenes. It moved along at slow, steady pace, and showed lots of detail.

Jay Mohr the comedian did a good job as character Billy who was the older brother of George. He constantly kept pushing him to get back into the psychic business. Overall, I thought the movie was pretty entertaining. However, the slow pace of the film had me dosing off at times. I gave it a B-.
